Outside of her professional pursuits, Dyan Gershman is a longtime volunteer with Habitat for Humanity.
A global organization that builds houses throughout the United States and abroad, Habitat for Humanity empowers women and their families through its Women Build program. Since 1991, annual Women Build events across the country have invited women of all skill levels and backgrounds to donate their time and resources to help build safe, affordable housing.
Volunteers do not need construction experience, and experienced construction professionals supervise all work. Women Build relies on generous donations of gift cards and volunteer labor from Lowe’s to support its annual events.
Women Build also works internationally to help women find safety, stability, and independence through affordable housing. For example, Habitat for Humanity has worked with organizations in Costa Rica and Mexico on micro-enterprise, home-based entrepreneurial ventures that create livelihoods for 1,200 families.
